Welcome To Missing Wales
Over 150 children and adults are reported missing each week in Wales. The vast number reported to the Police return after a relatively short period and on the surface do not appear to have suffered any great harm. There are however, some who suffer dreadful harm while missing.
Missing Wales is a charity dedicated to helping and trace missing people from Wales and supporting their families. We provide a 24hour/7day a week free phone helpline. Our aim is to support, advise and listen to any person who has gone missing and wishes to contact us to either pass on a simple safe and well message home or if possible and safe to do so- re-unite with their families.
Working with the Welsh Parliment
On 12th December 2008 Missing Wales held a Service at the Senedd, Cardiff to highlight missing persons from Wales. The occasion helped highlight the plight of families whose relatives are still missing. The programme began with a Prayer; the angelic voices of the Cor Ysgol Beca then sang a selection of songs in both English and Welsh. Sara Edwards Television Presenter then introduced the placing of dedications on the tree by relatives of people missing accompanied by songs from Ian Evans and Courtney Thomas.
There was TV coverage of the event when BBC and ITV and S4C helped promote difficulties experienced by those in Wales through the media of television.
Janet Williams of Missing Wales then called upon Nerys Evans AM the event sponsor to conclude the formal part of the ceremony; Missing Wales were remembering those missing at Christmas and placing dedication hearts on the tree.
The “Tree of absent hearts” is a symbol of hope; its leaves remain evergreen in the darkest days Christmas is a time of joy for most of us, our thoughts are focused on presents, family reunions, parties, carols and our lives busy preparing food and buying presents, altogether a truly special time of year......Yet, there are some families where there will be no joy, as loved ones are missing from home, the anguish and worry of not knowing where they are or if they are safe and well takes away all the pleasures of Christmas.
